General Information


University Overview


Founded in 1902, Nanjing Forestry University (NFU) has 114 years of history. The University has 60 departments in 23 college, and offers 82 undergraduate programs, 69 master degree programs, and 27 doctoral programs. The total number of students is more than 30000, among whom are 4000 master, doctoral and foreign students. In nearly 60 years, NFU has fostered 90,000 graduates and postgraduates as well as foreign students, most of whom have now become the backbones of the forestry development of China.


NFU is authorized to examine quality and approve professorships. Now NFU has approximately 1150 teaching and administrative staff including 3 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, other 7 members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering invited as university’s concurrent professors, 180 professors and 393 associate professors, 152 supervisors for doctoral students. NFU has the total area of 378 square meters, the total teaching and research equipment of the university reaches to the value of 328 million yuan. The university library has a collection of 1,570,000 volumes and 67,000 periodicals in both Chinese and foreign languages. And the campus broadband network has already covered all the corners of the university.


Study period and Academic Schedule


The normal period of study for each program is as follows: 4 years for undergraduate degrees, 3 years (or in some cases, 2 years) for master's degrees, and 3 years for doctoral degrees. Students may, in particular cases, apply for early or delayed graduation. .


Nanjing Forestry University divides every academic year into spring and autumn semesters, with the latter marking the commencement of the academic year. The autumn semester starts in September and ends in January of the following year while the spring semester begins in February and ends in June. There will be a winter and summer vacation every year. The summer vacation usually lasts 2 months and the winter vacation lasts 4 weeks and normally coincides with the Chinese New Year.
