Overview of Nanjing Forestry University

Founded in 1952, Nanjing Forestry University is oriented and devoted to ecological environment construction and management, development and utilization of biological resources. In 2017, Nanjing Forestry University was selected in the country’s construction plan of “Double First-class” initiative.

NJFU has 60 Departments in 22 Colleges, offering 75 undergraduate programs, 130 master degree programs, and 46 doctorate programs. There are 6 national key disciplines of Forestry Engineering, Ecology, Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Wood Science and Technology, Chemical Processing Engineering of Forest Products, Forest Protection.

NJFU is known for outstanding research facilities and highly qualified teachers and researchers with extensive research interests and in-depth knowledge. Today the University has 2040 full-time faculties, of whom 255 are professors and 559 are associate professors, along with 2 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Newly-built library, with a collection of 2 million volumes, as well as Chinese and foreign journals and newspapers, serves as a comprehensive modern information center.

Since 2006, NJFU has achieved rapid development in the areas of education for international students with the great increase of proportion and scope of excellent international students pursuing bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or doctoral degree from more than sixty countries.


Nanjing Forestry University provides students dormitory for the international students. The Dorm located northwest of campus is a 3 storey building with totally 36 apartments and 144 single rooms. All the apartments in the Dorm are equipped with shared kitchen, shared bathroom, furniture, air-conditioner, internet access and other electronic facilities. General Rules of Enrollment


Launched in 2010, APFNet Scholarship Program (ASP) aims to support capable individuals - either forestry officials or researchers from the Asia-Pacific region pursue higher academic degrees in the field of sustainable forest management and rehabilitation.

To better satisfy the demands of APFNet member economies in higher lever forestry education, ASP will also provide opportunities for students from developing APFNet member economies to undertake Ph.D. study at NJFU in China. The study and research opportunities provided by APFNet Ph.D. scholarship will help you to develop the skills and knowledge of individuals to drive change and contribute to development in their own economies.


(1). Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens from developing APFNet member economies including Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Mexico, Fiji Islands, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Peru, the Philippines and Viet Nam, or from Greater Central Asia, specifically Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan

(2). Applicants should pass the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) Level Ⅲ

(3). Age:18 - 45, and in good health condition

(4). have obtained a Master’s degree or an equivalent degree from an accredited higher education institute in forestry or related field

(5). at least 2 years of work experience are prioritized

(6). Proficiency in English (all the courses of this program will be taught in English)

(7). A recommendation letter from APFNet Council representative or contact person (please see the list http://www.apfnet.cn/en/single-132.html )

(8). Applicants should fulfill the application requirements of NJFU

(1). Monthly stipend of CNY 3,500

(2). Accommodation on campus

(3). Comprehensive medical insurance

(4). Lump-sum payment of CNY 500 per year for outpatient medical services, regardless of actual costs

(5). One round trip international tickets between students’ home economy and China

(2). Please follow the following guidelines when approaching the potential supervisors:

- View their profiles and read a couple of their publications to familiarize yourself with their work;

- Write a brief email to them indicating your awareness of their research and how it fits your interests (be specific, refer to their publications);

- Let them know your intention to apply for APFNet Scholarship Program & your interest in being supervised by them;

- Tell them a couple of strong points about your background and who you’ve worked with on research projects;

- Ask if it is OK to refer to them as a prospective supervisor in your application and return a confirmed letter as required.

(4). Certificate(s) of English language proficiency

(5). Certificate of HSK

(6). Two Recommendation letters in English

(7). Notarized highest degree diploma and academic transcripts

(8). A study or research plan in English

(9). Other attachments deemed necessary to prove applicant’s ability

(10). A Approval letter from the applicant’s employer/organization showing the applicant shall be agreed to come to study at NJFU

(1). After having received the application documents, five working days are needed to consult with admissions staff and the Faculty review teams to verify the applicants’ eligibility and qualifications. The applicants whose materials have been approved will be informed to attend the interview through Skype in early June. The list of awarded students will be posted on our website: (http://iec.njfu.edu.cn/engnew/) within 2 weeks after the interview.

(2). The admission package, including Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Studying in China (JW202) will be mailed to the enrolled students before June 30th. Applicants are advised to clearly state their postal address in the relevant forms.

(3). Registration period will be specified in the Admission Notice.

(4). Documents - required for Registration:

- Admission Notice from Nanjing Forestry University;

- Visa Application Form for Study in China(JW202);

- Health Examination Certificate;

- Passport photos (with WHITE background);
